Slap n' Tickle

When Sandie & I first got together we put a show together of music & comedy mainly visual things as you will see below, we carried a huge props box around which was full of costumes and our own lighting, we had over 15 changes, whilst one of us sang the other would change into the next costume, we had a few silly tricks and some pretty poor jokes, and some impressions of the famous of the time. The show lasted for 50 mins.It was very difficult to maintain continuity as some venues had no dressing room and we would have to change in the toilets.

We worked with an agency called "Top Act" Ents George & Shirley ran this business from their home in west London, we worked clubs and we did a summer season for them in Gt. Yarmouth in 1980 we had 6 nights of 2 shows a night in the Ladbrooks camps and on the Sunday we would drive 12 hours to the Isle of Wight for a half hour spot at either one of the Warners camps there and finish in time to make the last ferry back to Portsmouth and drive back to Gt Yarmouth for our Monday shows.

We stayed in our caravan at a site in Scratby where we got to know the owner David who struck a deal with us, we would stay at the site for free and look after the swimming pool, fine by us we were always in the pool area anyway.

We also worked for an agency in Bognor which belonged to a retired mime act, we did some good shows and met up with a comedian by the name of "Roy Jay" very funny man he told us about the Yorkshire club scene and gave us a few agents names and we we ended up in Yorkshire for 8 years.

(The photographs below were taken By Ed Edmonds a very professional photographer we had a complete afternoon shooting these pictures. Within 4 days Ed died of a heart condition he never knew he had, there is a little sadness attached to these pictures).

Poster Ted Rogers show Kiskcaldy

Ted was one of the nice people in show biz we enjoyed our

time with him on this show.

Johnnie Kildare was the promoter of the show we worked for him twice a year.

Once we played in at the "Tartan Club" which was notorious as a hard club but we came out alive.

We worked in clubs, pubs, and did Masonic functions for him one morning Johnnie never woke up,

he died in his sleep a young man, we never went to Scotland after that..

We decided on making life a little easier and put together a multi instrumental show and change our name to -

The Turnpennies------this was much more us.
